A Novel and Generalized Lithium-Ion-Battery with High Efficiency and Low Cost
2016-12-12 14:52

With the increasingly urgent demand for the high energy density of the lithium ion batteries (LIBs) for intelligent electronic devices and electric vehicles, the energy density of conventional LIBs based on graphite anode is limited. Therefore, it is urgent to develop new LIBs with high-capacity anode materials. Recently, our research team has developed a novel and generalized lithium-ion-battery with high efficiency and low cost. This new type of battery directly uses high capacity anode as both anode material and current collector, replacing the graphite anode and the copper foil current collector in the traditional LIBs. The cathode materials (lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate, ternary, etc.) have been used commercially. This new battery structure can not only greatly reduce the dead weight and volume of the battery and significantly improve the energy density, but also greatly reduce the manufacturing cost, and has a wide range of universality. This research result has a good prospect of industrial application. With the technology becoming more and more mature, it is expected to change the current lithium ion battery industry situation in the future. The relevant research result, "A Novel and Generalized lithium-ion Battery Configuration utilizing Al Foil as Both Anode and Current Collector for Enhanced Energy Density" has been published in Advanced Materials. The research result was reported by China energy storage network, ScienceNet and other media.
